New Device View
The great benefit of SAAS services is that they are continuously evolving. Microsoft Intune works with Service Releases for the new features and improvements. Some feature are announced and some are not that visible. But now something is changing. The overview of device blade is changing. In this (short) blog post if describe the proces of changing this view.
Service Release
Microsoft Intune works with Service Releases as mentioned above. Microsoft Intune operates on a monthy base for their service releases. In Service Release 2604 the new Device View is introduced. To view your current Service Release navigate to to tenant administration.
From the Intune Portal:
Intune Administration > Tenant status
Changing to the New Device Node
There is a huge change In service release 2604, the new device view. We can try this new view by heading over to the All devices view in Intune and switch the toggle Preview new device view to On.
From the Intune Portal:
Devices > All Devices
When selecting the toggle we get another blade with some highlights and changes to this new view. We can change the view by selecting Try it now
New Device View
With the frist change of the device view an short introduction is shown about the significant changes. This tour will show you where the commands and view are located. We can skip this tour or run through this short tour. It will show the Remote actions, Device action status and the Tools + Reports where these are located to get you started.
We can start the tour at any time again from the device node by selection the tree dots (...)
The new view is activated when we select a device, (see print screen). This view is different from the "old' current view. Actions are more grouped and shown in another way. I can image it can take some time to get used to this view, so its good that we can activated this way to get familiar with this view.
Switch back to current view
We can switch back to the current view at any time, it can be handy when you just can find that specific command or view when needed 😁.
From the Intune Portal:
Device > All Devices
Switch to toggle to Off. When we select the toggle we can give feedback why we changed the view back. When you want to switch back to the new view, simply switch the Toggle back to On.
Recap
The new device view is a major change. Start by exploring this view in preview mode to become familiar with it. If a specific command cannot be found and time is short, temporarily switch back to the old view, but make sure to learn how to run these commands from the new view. Use the feedback option to share any comments about these view and why you switched back.
